My Goonie Adventure
In 1985, I wanted to be a Goonie. I was 12, and felt I would make a great addition to the group. Not to mention I had a HUGE crush on Mikey Walsh played by Sean Astin. I wasn't alone, I'm sure there were thousands like me with the same ambition. Who wouldn't want to be a Goonie? They went on treasure hunting adventures, watched MTV and rode their bikes all over coastal Oregon. They were the IT thing! For me, this became the quintessential movie of the 80's and probably the defining movie of my childhood.
Well, I'm happy to say that it's never too late to be a Goonie. On a recent trip to Montauk LI, I felt like a kid again. I was climbing rocks, walking through jungles (that's a bit of an exaggeration) and standing dangerously close to the edges of cliffs. And you know what - I loved every minute of it! All the while, I kept thinking of this movie.
And I swear at one point I looked out into the ocean and thought I saw a faint image of a pirate ship sailing to the horizon.....I shook it off, but it was then that I realized I had finally lived my Goonie adventure... and it only took 27 years...

Disney and my daughter
A rainy saturday and an unexpected illness provided the perfect opportunity for a Disney day. Like movies, Disney is another passion of mine and one that I love sharing with my daughter. We started watching Disney movies together when she was very small and it quickly turned into a Sunday night family tradition. One I'm happy to say that we still continue.
This weeks pick was Peter Pan, an oldie but goodie. We've watched this movie together many times and without fail, I always tear up at the end. I'm not sure why, it's just that this movie has always had this affect on me. My daughter doesn't seem to notice, she's always far too engrossed in the movie. I think it has to do with growing up and not wanting to lose this special time with her. Disney is all about childhood wonder and innocence and I feel that with each and every day that I'm starting to lose her a little bit. She still loves watching these movies with me, but for how long? This chapter in our life is slowly coming to an end, making way for new fads and interests and where will I be then?
I hope that she'll continue to grow to love Disney as I did, and that the magic will continue to live within her. All it takes is "faith, trust and a little pixie dust"....

~Just a "Disney" movie loving Mom
I've often wondered, if I hadn't spent my childhood growing up in a video store, would I still feel the same way I do now about movies?.....Say, if my father had been a mechanic, would I have a preferred passion for fixing cars? Maybe, but I kinda doubt it....
About me...I'm 38 years old, married and have one beautiful daughter. I'm also hopelessly addicted to the movies. Honestly, I'm as equally addicted to reading movie reviews as I am about seeing the actual movie. I've had a subscription to "Entertainment Weekly" for the last 15 years and consider it to be my go-to guide on everything Hollywood. Over the years, my husband has had the unfortunate pleasure of sitting through countless readings of reviews and commentaries. I thought it was time to find a more creative outlet......
So, stay tuned....there's more to come
